New York Garment District

The New York Garment District - New York City Garment District was originally fully retail, until the gradual moving of retailers uptown. What remained was wholesalers and warehouses.

The district is now home to a high concentration of garment and fabric manufactures, wholesale distributors, factory sales reps, brokers, and designer studios, especially all along Madison Avenue. (one block west of Park on map below)

Designer studios and factory showrooms are found within the skyscrapers in the 100 block of Madison Ave, making it easy for retailers and distributors to visit many vendors, with very little travel time spent in the city.

Two of the largest concentrations of designer showrooms and garment industry manufacturers offices can be found at 180 Madison Avenue, and 183 Madison Avenue (34th & Madison Ave a block away from Empire State Building). There is a heavy concentration of lingerie industry businesses in those two buildings.

The Javits Center in the far west end of the garment district is the meeting place for garment and accessories shows through out the year. Vendors from around the world attend the shows, to promote their goods in this huge complex.

Show attendance draws millions of visitors each year, and it is known as the place to show your lines, and find new trading partners within the U.S. The shows held there throughout the year are by far the most important for the U.S market. If you are looking for new trading partners, this should be your first stop. You will have the opportunity to meet garment industry sales reps, view the next season's line of designer fashions and lingerie, shake hands, and even walk away with product for immediate sale.

If you want to purchase, you will be able to do that, and you can have your orders shipped to your business. Often, orders are shipped the day of the show, arriving soon after you return to your business, if not before. If you need it right away, be sure to mention that to the sales rep and compare the competition. Any company who can ship the day of the show, is sure to meet your needs long term. A good sales rep comes prepared to do business, and lots of it. The center has everything the buyer needs to shop for their wares. To visit the Javits Center site, click here.

The garment district area has the widest variety of restaurants and hotels, all within easy walking distance of the designer studios and garment manufactures showrooms
